The Training Journey

For whatever reason, I am drawn again and again to train and to try and reach a point of being my best self. I think that that is what it is about, being my best self. I have such a driving sense of the life that we have and want to inject it with everything that I can. Mere human that I am, I have to fit this in with a 'normal (ish)' life and so I currently cannot play all day but I will take it when I can.

There have been so many reasons why I have avoided confrontation with myself about being my best self and hidden under entirely plausible excuses, but there is a wee pilot-light in my heart that when I step foot outside and smell and feel and see the trails, the rock, the mud, the mulch, the woods, bursts into flame and I feel so alive and it is so right. It is exceptionally special and it never dulls. It is my world. And so, I am making it a priority again. Very shortly, in a couple of days, it will have taken prime place in my non-work life (aside from my people but that is a different thing of course) and it will be unashamedly important. I am training again and today was a good day, a beginning kind of day, a successful day.

Morning runs to lift the heart

It is a truth indeed that if I run, it lifts my heart, even if it is cold and wet and dark and vile but sometimes morning light is particularly special. Home is very beautiful and a remarkable place of natural beauty but here is special too.

At home I have the woods and the trails from my front door but here is a different kind of lovely in the morning. The sea brings a different light, a different sunrise again. Home excels in temperature inversions sitting in the valley, over which burning orange light rises; here at sea level you have the bright, clear sun, reflected in the sea, like a million glistening lights. I love the openness of being near the sea, the being at the end of the land.
